The story behind the book

For creators who want to get better.

A complete guide to making social media videos people watch, remember and share. Written for people just starting and for people who already post.

A note from Ray

You might be wondering if I'm some big creator, or if I work in film or marketing. I'm none of the above. I'm just a regular guy who runs a small online shop and a small YouTube and TikTok channel.

I never had any intention of writing a book. I started putting this together because I wanted to learn how to make better content, and I didn't have months to read a book on every subject I needed to learn. So I started asking AI what each part of the creation process is and how I could actually do it. I wasn't just blindly following instructions. I was starting to understand what my videos needed, why, and how to actually do it.

Then it hit me: there are probably a lot of creators with the same problem, and people who want to be creators but don't know how to start. So I took the 150 pages that were tailored to my channel and started making it for everyone. Many late nights and a ridiculous number of revisions later, here we are at almost 700 pages.

I'm not claiming to have mastered every subject in this book. I'm still learning. But you shouldn't have to wait until I've mastered it all to benefit from it.

The one rule

If you remember one thing from the book, make it this: the first seconds of your post make a promise. The rest of the post has to keep it. Keep it, and the viewer trusts you a bit more. Next time they see you, they stop faster. Break it, and they scroll right past. That's the whole difference between a hook and clickbait.

Three ways in

It's not meant to be read front to back like a novel. It works as a course you follow in a sensible order, and as a reference you dip into when something goes wrong.

  • Start Creating: Plan, film, record, edit and post a short video that keeps its promise, with a 7-day plan to your first good video. Start with The Quick Start.
  • Grow & Improve: Find the weak step in your videos, fix it and build steady growth and income. Start with Chapter 59, Reading Your Numbers.
  • Create With AI: Brief, generate, check and fix AI work, then publish it honestly, without losing your creativity. Start with Working With AI: The Six-Step Loop.

Meet the crew

To keep the examples concrete, the book follows three made-up creators, different on purpose so you can see the same idea work in different worlds:

  • Maya makes cooking videos in a tiny apartment kitchen. Explains things well but used to start every video way too slowly.
  • Jordan makes skateboarding videos. Lots of great clips, not always a reason to keep watching.
  • Sam runs a small online candle shop and wants views to turn into sales without sounding like an ad.

If your thing is gaming, fitness, music, comedy, beauty, tech, art or a local business, the lessons are the same. Swap in your own subject.

How this book was made

Worth Watching was generated with AI tools under the direction of Ray S. Ray conceived the project, chose its audience and teaching goals, directed its structure and content, and guided it through many rounds of revision. Facts, platform rules and figures were researched against the sources listed in its “Notes and Sources” and checked in October 2026. It's honest about this for the same reason it teaches honesty: trust is how you grow.
