Ideas & hooks

Niche

The specific topic and the specific viewer your videos are for. Narrow enough that the right person thinks “this is for me.”

Why it matters

It tells the app who to show your videos to and tells viewers why to follow.

Example

“Cooking” is a topic. “15-minute dinners for night-shift workers” is a niche.

Common mistake

Going so broad that nobody feels spoken to, or so narrow you run out of ideas in a month.

How to use it

Test a niche by writing 30 video ideas for it. If you can’t, it’s too narrow or not interesting enough to you. If the ideas could be for anyone, it’s too broad. A good niche usually combines a topic, a specific viewer and your angle: what you know, have or do that most people making videos about it don’t.
