How to use it
- Star your niche and one or two next to it.
- Open the top three and watch only the first three seconds. Write down what you see and hear first.
- Spot the pattern: the format, the length, the kind of hook. That’s what this audience responds to right now.
- Make your version with your angle, then check it in the Hook Checker and the Idea Scorer.
Videos, titles and numbers come from YouTube through the YouTube Data API: the most-viewed videos of 3 minutes or less uploaded in the past 7 days, for a US English-language search. Each niche is refreshed weekly and the data is deleted after 30 days. YouTube content is subject to the YouTube Terms of Service; see also Google’s Privacy Policy and ours.
What this shows, and what it doesn’t
It shows what’s getting watched in a niche right now, on YouTube, for people searching in English in the US. That’s a strong hint about what the audience responds to: openings, formats, lengths and topics.
It doesn’t show how a video would do for you, or what works on TikTok or Instagram. And a list of hits hides every similar video that flopped, so look for patterns across several videos, not one lucky one.
Common questions
Where do the numbers come from?
From YouTube itself, through the YouTube Data API. For each niche we search for the most-viewed short videos uploaded in the past week (US, English) and show YouTube’s view and subscriber counts. Nothing is estimated.
Why only YouTube?
TikTok and Instagram don’t offer public data for this. For TikTok, its free Creative Center shows trending hashtags, songs and creators.
What does “small channel” mean?
A channel with fewer than 10,000 subscribers. When small channels show up near the top, it’s a sign newcomers can still get seen in that niche.
Should I copy these videos?
No. Study them: the first frame, the first line, the length, the format. Then make your own version for your viewer, with your angle.
Chapters 3 and 5 of Worth Watching cover finding your viewer and ideas worth making, and Chapter 13 covers why copying what’s hot stops working.
