Safe zone

The part of a vertical video that isn’t covered by the app’s buttons, captions and profile info.

Why it matters

Text or faces in the covered areas can’t be seen, no matter how good they are.

Example

Keeping on-screen text in the upper-middle of the frame, clear of the right-side buttons.

Common mistake

Putting your hook text at the very bottom, where the caption covers it.

How to use it

Every app covers a slightly different area, and layouts change, so check before you export. The safest region is roughly the middle of the frame, away from the bottom edge and the right side. If you post the same video to several apps, use the area that’s safe on all of them.
